Charlestown is a village in Fife, Scotland. It was here that the lime industry in Scotland developed from a medieval craft industry into a commercial enterprise playing a pivotal role in the industrial revolution in Scotland. The massive bank of 14 lime kilns (now scheduled as an ancient monument), at the height of its production in the early nineteenth century supplied around one third of all the lime being used in Scotland. It lies on the north shore of the Firth of Forth, around 1 mile west of Limekilns and 3 miles south-west of Dunfermline. {nl}
