An East Lothian gin company which opened its premises near North Berwick last year is celebrating after having achieved its Five Star Quality Assurance award from the national tourism organisation.

NB Distillery has achieved the prestigious 5-Star Tour award from VisitScotland, the latest in a long line of accolades for the business. Owners Steve and Vivienne Muir started distilling gin the original spirit, NB Gin, from their kitchen in 2013 and as their gins grew in popularity, they moved to the purpose-built eco-friendly distillery Halflands, North Berwick, in April 2019. They now offer a luxury experience for visitors, which is themed on the concept of ‘coming home’ with comfy sofas, log burners and even a set of slippers on arrival to enjoy the range of luxury and experience tours, private dining experiences and private events from these premises. The experiences range from a one-hour tasting experience to a luxury two-hour connoisseur tour, and exclusive private events and parties.

VisitScotland Regional Director Neil Christison said:“From food and drink to accommodation, delivering a quality experience that meets, and exceeds, visitor expectations is crucial in making Scotland a must-visit, must-return destination.”“Our Quality Assurance scheme helps businesses to reach their full potential and truly shine. The scheme is about more than just the ‘stars’ on the door - it’s about the entire visitor experience, about investing in your business, driving-up quality and creating jobs.”Rhona Hartley, Head of Customer Experience at NB Distillery, said

The distillery was recently shortlisted for the best visitor attraction award in the Scottish Thistle Awards for Lothian & Borders, against competition from Edinburgh Dungeons and the National Museum of Scotland.

Vivienne Muir, owner of NB Distillery, said

VisitScotland’s Quality Assurance schemes can open the door to new customers. It is a powerful marketing tool and works well with online review sites in using an independent perspective to measure visitor experience against tried and tested criteria, so visitors know exactly what to expect.
