The Signet Library
Located in the heart of Edinburghs Old Town on the Royal Mile, The Signet Library is home to the Society of Writers to Her Majestys Signet - WS Society for short. The Society goes back to the 15th century as the officers authorised to produce royal manuscripts with the King of Scotlands seal, ‘the Signet’. The Signet Library building, designed by Robert Reid with interiors by William Stark, was completed for the WS Society in 1822 in time for the famous visit to Edinburgh of King George IV. The classical architecture inspired the concept of Gran Caffè and Italian influence. Colonnades at the Signet Library is the perfect place for ‘Edinburghs finest afternoon tea’ and delicious cocktails and fizz. A popular events venue for Weddings and conferences. It has also been used as a backdrop for the Outlander TV series.
