VisitScotland, the national tourism organisation, has welcomed the official opening of the Levenmouth rail line today (Wednesday).
The project includes two brand new accessible stations (Cameron Bridge and Leven) and 19 kilometres of track, connecting Leven to Thornton Junction on the East Coast Mainline.
ScotRail services will begin operating on the new railway from Sunday, 2 June.
Caroline Warburton, Destination Development Director at VisitScotland, said: “The opening of the Levenmouth rail line is a significant day for Fife and we’re excited to see the positive impact it will have on the local communities of Levenmouth and the wider region.
“Our national ambition is for Scotland to be a sustainable tourism destination and the opening of the Levenmouth railway line will contribute to delivering this ambition. The new rail line will not only improve transport links for local people but will support the promotion of sustainable and active travel for visitors to the region.
“We know that our scenery and landscape are key reasons why people come to Scotland. Levenmouth is well positioned to take advantage of this. Combine this with the rest of Fife’s coastal scenery, active travel routes such as the Fife Pilgrim Way, golf courses, and great food and drink, and Fife has a great tourism mix.
“We look forward to continuing to work with businesses to help them realise the potential in the area and transform the wider region in the years to come.”
