The assets stored and available in this toolkit are subject to copyright law. You must pay close attention to the licence and comply with usage instructions.

Standard Licence

Description: A non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use this asset in your marketing and advertising campaigns provided you promote Scotland as a destination to visit. ‘Royalty free’ is a licensing term used to describe how copyright protected assets can be used without the need to pay royalties or license fees.

Usage: All Print publishing and digital marketing (paid or unpaid) including social media promoting Scotland as a destination to visit.

Types of assets: Any asset owned by VisitScotland with documented permissions to share with industry and media. Assets are model and location released. Assets include images, B-Roll footage, and some completed video. Completed video refers to a final master output, edited into a sequence that tells a story or showcases a subject. Featuring colour-graded stock, audio track, titles, and branding.

Approved use: 500,000+ printed copies. Advertising, marketing, and promotional materials. TV, social media, newspapers, magazines, blogs and/or books.

Prohibited use: You cannot use our assets as resale items. Examples include wall art, postcards, stationery items, calendars, apparel items, DVDs, mobile applications, NFTs or other items for resale. This includes “on demand” products, mugs, t-shirts, posters, and other items (this includes the sale of products through custom designed websites). You cannot sub-licence or distribute our assets for direct profit.

Duration: Digital publishing and marketing last 36 months from the date of download. If you want to extend usage, sign into the Toolkit and re-download the asset. Print publishing is unlimited. But you must delete all production copies of the files after printing. If you intend to update your printed marketing after the first print run, you must re-download the asset. If the Asset has an Expiry Date you must cease all use of those assets by expiry date.

User visibility: All users, including staff, partners, industry, travel trade and travel media.

Licence Editorial A Licence to use assets for editorial purposes, which is, to illustrate an event or story in an article but not commercially such as marketing a product or print ad. An Editorial asset may show a brand, a trademarked logo or product, a public personality, or recognisable people, without a signed release or with limited releases. When you use VisitScotland Editorial content you do so to illustrate Scottish tourism in a positive way.
