Discover Scotland once again

Hundreds of Scottish tourism and events businesses will connect with tour operators and travel agents from around the world at a brand-new travel trade event next month.

Discover Scotland 2022 will for the first time this year combine an online business-to-business event, known as Discover Scotland: Reconnect 2022 taking place on 5-7 April 2022; with five regional showcases, known as Discover Scotland: Live Showcase to be held in May and September 2022, promoting trade-ready Scottish tourism businesses to key buyers from 21 international markets.

It is the only travel trade series that exclusively promotes Scotland as a visitor destination and enables Scottish businesses to connect with key buyers from around the globe to help attract visitors, from near and far, to Scotland and help rebuild Scotland’s valuable tourism industry.

327 tourism and events operators from across Scotland are due to attend the virtual event in April, to connect with 320 international delegates through 1-2-1 meetings, panel sessions and virtual networking.

There are 65 businesses from Scotland that have not previously attended a VisitScotland trade event.

Among the countries and territories represented are Scotland’s key markets; UK, Canada, USA, Germany, France, Spain and Italy; other short haul markets in Europe; Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium; as well as emerging markets Republic of Korea, China, India, Japan, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, South Africa, Israel, Australia, Brazil, Mexico.

VisitScotland is committed to working with the industry to create a long-lasting sustainable tourism destination supporting the ambition of Outlook 2030, for Scotland to be recognised globally as a leader in responsible tourism, which will protect the natural and cultural environment and benefit visitors and residents alike. Discover Scotland 2022 will support this aspiration by showcasing responsible tourism products to key international buyers.

Malcolm Roughead, Chief Executive, VisitScotland said:“The Scottish tourism industry has shown strength, resilience and innovation as it strives to navigate an unprecedented and ever-changing situation and we are looking forward to connecting with colleagues new and old.“VisitScotland supports the tourism industry in its aspirations to internationalise and to attract business and revenues back from international markets in 2022 and beyond.”Stuart Cordner, Managing Director, Cruise Loch Lomond said:Paul Sharman, said:“We stand ready with a great choice of wildlife-watching cruises and private charter options to talk to tour operators about and hope to make some great new working relationships going forward.”Adam Civico, NB Communication’s head of content marketing who will represent Promote Shetland at the event, said:“The islands’ open landscapes and dramatic coastlines make Shetland the perfect destination for visitors from the UK and further afield. Not only that but there’s the chance to witness some of the most captivating wildlife in Shetland’s stunning natural environment.“Promote Shetland’s Find Your True North winter campaign attracted more tourists to the islands through the traditionally quieter months. Now, as the islands gear up for a busy summer season it’s the perfect opportunity to celebrate Shetland as a must-visit destination.”Constance Schimmeyer, Head of Tourism and Marketing at Ballindalloch Castle and Gardens, said“This virtual event is a fantastic opportunity to kick off the 2022 season and I am looking forward to not only building upon our long-standing business connections but also to networking with new clients.“I am particularly keen to branch out into the German-speaking travel trade market, and it is very exciting and encouraging to see so many diverse exhibitors and attendees participating.”
