Adventure business makes tourism splash

Islay’s exclusive wildlife experience has received a Five Star grading from VisitScotland.

Islay Sea Adventures

The business becomes the fifth Five Star wildlife experience in Argyll & Bute following improvements made to their website and incorporating the use of digital tablets into their wildlife tours.

The boat tours give visitors the chance to see the spectacular range of wildlife offered by the coast and waters of Islay. These include seals, porpoises and an abundance of seabirds, as well as the occasional sighting of a Sea Eagle.

Four tours are available including nature watching in a special conservation area and a visit to Corryvrechan, the world’s third largest whirlpool. Fishing tours are also on offer as well as a seafood foraging experience.

As well as its spectacular wildlife offering, the Isle of Islay is also known as Whisky Island with a remarkable nine distilleries. Visitors can see Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg from the unique viewpoint of the sea when on a tour.

The timing of this award is particularly apt as Scotland prepares to celebrate its next themed year, the Year of Coasts and Waters 2020. The country will celebrate its coasts and waters with a year-long programme of events and activities which will shine a spotlight on these vital

elements of our landscape.

Angus Newman, Skipper for Islay Sea Adventures, said:David Adams McGilp, VisitScotland Regional Director, said:

“Our Quality Assurance Scheme is world-leading and provides a trusted, independent and impartial source of information for visitors. It is about much more than just a star rating – it is about the entire visitor experience and investing in the business to make it as economically sustainable, and profitable, as it can be.”
