(Five) Starboard

One of Dundee’s hottest new businesses has become the city’s first five-star activity centre.

Foxlake Adventures, which officially opened in the City Quay last year, has earned one of VisitScotland’s highest Quality Assurance awards in recognition of its exceptional standards.

The Quality Assurance Scheme is a benchmark for quality across the tourism industry and operates across accommodation, visitor attractions and food sectors.

The VisitScotland five star grading ensures that all areas of an attraction or activity centre show an excellent level of quality, from the strength of the arrival to the attraction, catering and toilets. Before the grading visit, the park’s website was looked at, as well as road and directional signs and booking procedure.

Since opening last summer, Foxlake has provided a range of thrilling water-based adventures from paddle boarding to cable wakeboarding, one of the world’s fastest growing watersports.

Zak Hegarty, Manager at Foxlake Dundee, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be awarded VisitScotland’s five-star award for our Foxlake wakeboarding park in Dundee, which is testament to those who have supported us over the last 10months to help get us up and running and the great team we have on board.

“The feedback we’ve had from everyone, including the locals, schools, Dundee City Council, businesses in the area and tourists has been incredible.

“Whether it’s wakeboarding, stand up paddleboarding, ringo rides or our SUP Yoga sessions, people are turning up to give it a shot, often for the first time, and immediately they’re hooked.

“There’s a great buzz in city, especially with the opening of the V&A just around the corner, and we are thrilled to be a part of.”

Foxlake is just one of a number of exciting new businesses helping transform Dundee’s tourism offering.

Caroline Warburton, VisitScotland Regional Leadership Director said: “To be named Dundee’s first five-star activity centre is a tremendous badge of honour, the team at Foxlake has been doing some amazing work to provide visitors with a truly unforgettable adventure. Last week Dundee was named as one of Lonely Planet’s Best in Europe 2018 destinations which was hugely exciting. The city is embarking on an exciting new era for tourism and Foxlake is a shining example of the diverse range of experiences Dundee can offer visitors.”

The VisitScotland Quality Assurance Scheme is world-leading and provides a trusted, independent and impartial source of information for visitors, which looks at the entire visitor experience and investing in the business to make it as economically sustainable, and profitable, as it can be.

Developed and improved over 30 years, the scheme provides visitors with an independent, impartial and trusted guide to standards.

Delivered by a dedicated team of experts who offer scheme members advice and support on how to not only meet visitor expectations but exceed them, the scheme aims to drive standards and encourage excellence whilst helping businesses reach their full potential and secure their success.
