A SHOPPING mall in the heart of West Lothian has secured one of the highest quality assurance accolades from the national tourism organisation.

The Centre Livingston, which boasts over 150 stores and over 20 eateries, including Debenhams, M&S, New Look, Primark, Nando’s, Wagamama and ASK Italian has achieved the prestigious 5-star Tourist Shop award from VisitScotland, one of five shopping centres in Scotland to achieve this grading, and one of six businesses across West Lothian to receive the 5-star award.

VisitScotland Chief Executive Malcolm Roughead visited The Centre today (Thursday 26 September) to present the award, as part of an annual Listening Tour of the country to engage with industry and tourism leaders, business owners and operators across the country.

VisitScotland Chief Executive Malcolm Roughead said“From retail to accommodation, delivering a quality experience that meets, and exceeds, visitor expectations is crucial in making Scotland a must-visit, must-return destination.” “Our Quality Assurance scheme helps businesses to reach their full potential and truly shine. The scheme is about more than just the ‘stars’ on the door - it’s about the entire visitor experience, about investing in your business, driving-up quality and creating jobs.”Patrick Robbertze, Centre Director at The Centre, Livingston said“To be recognised in this way is a wonderful achievement, which we are all very proud of.” West Lothian Council’s Executive councillor for development and transport Cathy Muldoon said“The Centre is a huge asset for West Lothian, helping bring visitors to West Lothian and supporting the local economy.”

Following his tour of The Centre, Mr Roughead went on to meet with representatives from Midlothian and East Lothian Council as well as visiting Rosslyn Chapel and the Belhaven Visitor Centre in East Lothian.

Building on the successes of similar events held over the recent years, this series of Chief Executive Listening Tour meetings gives tourism organisations and businesses the opportunity to speak directly to Mr Roughead.

VisitScotland’s Quality Assurance schemes can open the door to new customers. It is a powerful marketing tool and works well with online review sites in using an independent perspective to measure visitor experience against tried and tested criteria, so visitors know exactly what to expect.
