Making waves in the Scottish Highlands

North Coast Sea Tours, situated in the picturesque fishing hamlet Kylesku, in the north west of Scotland, has been awarded a 5-star Quality Assurance Award following a grading from VisitScotland.

The national tourism organisation’s Quality Assurance (QA) Scheme is a benchmark for quality across the tourism industry and operates across accommodation, visitor attractions and food sectors.

It’s all hands on deck at North Coast Sea Tours, providing a wealth of boating experiences for both visitors and residents alike; from The Old Man of Stoer and Cape Wrath to Handa Island and Sula Sgeir, not to mention plenty of wildlife spotting and a private charter, there is an adventure for everyone.

Owner Derek Gordon originally founded ‘Go to St Kilda’ in 2013, the only provider at the time that offered day and camping trips from Skye to St Kilda. Go to St Kilda’ was also recognised as a 5-Star VisitScotland business and previous winner of the ‘Best outdoor activity experience’ at the Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards.

In 2017 the business was sold to Sea Skye Marine who continue to run the business. This allowed Derek to fulfil his ambition to provide high quality birdwatching and wildlife tours with an aim to explore the fantastic coastline around the north and west of Scotland. In summer 2018, North Sea Coast Tours was born and for the past year has continued to provide remarkable and memorable experiences to all.

Derek Gordon, owner of North Coast Sea Tours, said, “We are delighted to receive this award, which we regard as a valuable asset to grow our business providing unique boat tours to Handa Island and remote uninhabited island destinations including North Rona, Sule Skerry, Sula Sgeir and Flannan Islands."

Chris Taylor, VisitScotland Regional Leadership Director, said, “Congratulations to Derek and his team on this outstanding achievement. This 5-star grading is a true testament to the hard work and commitment of every staff member and is a glowing example of the quality of experiences on offer in the north west of Scotland.

“We continually strive to provide world class experiences, events and attractions to keep up with ever-changing visitor demands. Tourism is the heartbeat of the Scottish economy and touches every community, generating income, jobs and social change.”
